Roma hit five in commanding win over Udinese

The result

Roma left the Dacia Arena with a 5-2 Serie A victory over Udinese, built on a devastating first-half spell in which the visitors scored four times without reply. The result was 4-0 at the interval, and although Udinese improved their return in the second half, Roma added a late fifth to close out an emphatic away win.

The numbers underlined Roma’s edge in the key attacking areas. They had 54% possession, completed 444 of 532 passes, created seven big chances and recorded 43 dangerous attacks. Udinese had their own attacking moments, posting 15 total shots to Roma’s 14 and winning seven corners, but Roma were the more clinical side across the match.

Roma take control before the break

The visitors struck first on 10 minutes. Bryan Cristante headed in from Wesley’s assist to give Roma an early lead. Cristante then turned provider at 31 minutes, setting up Rodrigo Mora for a right-footed finish and a 2-0 advantage.

Roma’s scoring accelerated further in a four-minute stretch. Donyell Malen made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute with a left-footed strike, assisted by Matías Soulé. Soulé supplied another assist four minutes later, as Evan Ndicka headed home Roma’s fourth.

That sequence decided the shape of the contest. Roma went into half-time with four goals from the opening 37 minutes, having established a margin that Udinese could not erase.

Udinese respond, Roma finish strongly

Udinese began the second half with a response through Nicolò Zaniolo, whose left-footed effort made it 1-4 in the 50th minute. The home side made two changes in the 56th minute, introducing Giorgi Chakvetadze and Unai Gómez, before adding a second goal later in the match.

Matteo Palma scored in the 78th minute, converting a right-footed effort from Hassane Kamara’s assist to reduce the gap to 2-4. Udinese’s output included 13 key passes, 13 successful dribbles and 42 duels won, evidence that the home side continued to compete after the interval.

Roma, however, had the final word. In the second minute of added time, Daniele Ghilardi struck with his right foot from Santiago Castro’s assist to restore the three-goal margin at 5-2.

Cristante leads a varied Roma attack

Cristante was named Player of the Match with a rating of 8.47. His contribution was central to Roma’s opening-half command: a headed goal, an assist for Mora and a role in a side that registered five assists in total. He was also booked in the 60th minute.

Soulé provided two assists, for Malen and Ndicka, and received a 7.81 rating. Ndicka scored Roma’s fourth and was rated 7.54, while Mora scored once and earned 7.27. Malen added the third goal before being replaced by Castro on 59 minutes; Castro later supplied the assist for Ghilardi’s stoppage-time finish.

Roma had nine shots on target, compared with Udinese’s seven, and hit the woodwork twice. Their 11 shots from inside the box also contrasted with Udinese’s eight. The visitors’ superiority in big chances—seven created to Udinese’s three—aligned closely with the final scoreline.

Key takeaway

Roma’s four-goal first half was the defining factor. Udinese scored twice after the restart and generated more total shots, but Roma combined a slight possession advantage with stronger chance creation and five different goalscorers to secure a clear victory.
