Ferencvárosi stun AC Milan with clinical 2-0 win
Lenny Joseph scored twice in 14 second-half minutes, both set up by Kristoffer Zachariassen, as Ferencvárosi beat AC Milan 2-0 in Europa League League Stage action at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
Full-time
Ferencvárosi produced a disciplined and decisive away performance to defeat AC Milan 2-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Round 4 of the Europa League League Stage. The first half ended goalless, but Lenny Joseph struck twice after the interval to give the visitors a major result in Milan.
The scoreline was especially striking given Milan’s command of the ball. The home side had 70% possession, completed 595 of 675 passes and recorded 128 attacks to Ferencvárosi’s 96. Yet the visitors created the clearer openings: six big chances compared with Milan’s one, while they registered eight shots on target from 12 total attempts.
Joseph breaks the deadlock
Milan made three changes at the start of the second half, introducing Mario Gila, Diego Moreira and Christian Pulisic. However, it was Ferencvárosi who found the breakthrough.
In the 52nd minute, Joseph finished with his right foot to make it 1-0, with Kristoffer Zachariassen credited with the assist. Fourteen minutes later, the same combination delivered again: Zachariassen supplied Joseph for another right-footed finish and a 2-0 lead.
Those two moments settled a match that had remained level through 45 minutes. Ferencvárosi converted two of their eight efforts on target, while Milan managed only two shots on target despite attempting 15 shots overall.
Possession without a return
Milan’s numbers reflected sustained territorial pressure. They made 13 key passes, produced 27 crosses—eight accurate—and registered 66 dangerous attacks. Ferencvárosi, by contrast, made 289 passes and had 30% of the ball.
But the outcome underlined the difference between control and end product. Milan created one big chance and missed it; Ferencvárosi created six and missed four, but took the two that defined the evening. The visitors also had more corners, 4-2, more goal attempts, 11-9, and won more duels, 47-44.
Milan’s goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani made six saves, a figure that further reflected the volume of Ferencvárosi attempts on goal. At the other end, Dénes Dibusz made two saves as his side completed the clean sheet.
Late dismissal, no change to the result
Ferencvárosi’s task became more difficult in the 77th minute when substitute Bamidele Yusuf was sent off for violent conduct following a VAR review and card adjustment. The visitors played the closing stages with 10 men but protected their two-goal advantage.
Milan used all five substitutions, with Luka Modrić introduced in the 63rd minute and Francesco Camarda coming on in the 67th. Ferencvárosi also made five changes, including the 67th-minute replacement of two-goal scorer Joseph by Yusuf.
Standout performers
Zachariassen was named Player of the Match with a rating of 8.57 after assisting both goals. Joseph, whose brace decided the contest, received a 7.54 rating. For Milan, Torriani was the highest-rated player at 7.22, having made six saves.
Ferencvárosi leave Milan with a 2-0 victory built on their key second-half moments. Milan had the greater share of possession and passing volume, but the visitors were more productive in the chances that mattered.
